Welcome to Byron Bay!

The homework’s been done, the ground has been covered, the slate’s been wiped clean and it’s blue skies, calm seas and smooth sailing from now on.

We take great pleasure in inviting both member and supplier delegations to our inaugural conference which will definitely be true to the theme of tropical and topical but will also allow enough time for a touch of all that is typically Byron.

Complementing a jam-packed programme of inspirational speakers and educational experts will be informative trade displays and special presentations, and a social calendar designed to tantalize the tastebuds – and make you want to stay on to take advantage of the many post conference holiday options available in the beautiful Bay.

We invite you to register on the inserted form and look forward to welcoming you to one of the best conference locations in Australia.

Natalie Cook

"When running up hill, which we tend to do most of our lives, it doesn't matter how many times you feel like giving up -as long as your feet keep moving."

High flying Beach Volleyball Gold Medalist Natalie Cook is also the author of Go Girl, an ‘inspirational tale of courage and audacity’ which encourages readers to ‘Achieve Your Dreams’ and ‘Unleash Your Power’. A Gold Medal winning Olympiad of the highest degree she sustained a serious shoulder injury which she carried throughout 2004. Undaunted, she pursued gold with Herculean effort and ‘only one arm’.

Now London is calling and Natalie is ready, set and determined to go for gold for Australia

- just one more time - in 2012. Naturally, Natalie acknowledges the role of team players in this story of perseverance, passion and endurance and translates the key elements in relationships in sport to those of business. In both arenas, "teams" have their "players". Each "player" has their own important role to play. Goals and objectives are outlined at the start of each "season". Plans on how to accomplish these goals are mapped out. Incentives are put into place. Regular assessments of the team's progress are made and any necessary adjustments undertaken. Teamwork and good communication are vital in achieving these goals and objectives. Renowned for "walking on fire" Natalie's philosophy of "NO LIMITS" is reflected in her achievements and attitude to every situation.

Jeremy Maitland

Jeremy Maitland has been involved in the best industry for over 16 years in both wholesale and retail. He currently owns Bowral Pets and Aquarium in the Southern Highland of NSW. He believes that independent retailers can not only survive in the current retail environment but thrive. But to so they must think like the big guys. Two years ago he took the plunge and moved his business to a new location with great success. During the planning process, he always asked the questions, will this make me money and will it save me money? Find out what worked, what didn't and some of the reasons why it has grown consistently in the face of new competition and during the economic downturn.

Debra Templar

One of Australia’s leading retailing experts, Debra Templar just hates bad customer service and stupid business practices. So… she’s on a mission to change them. She doesn’t just want to improve how we do business for the customer’s sake but also that we, as business owners, sell more stuff, make lots more profit, and love our businesses back to life! She doesn’t pull any of this stuff out of academic tomes and university courses – she simply shows us how to apply the skills that she has applied to her own and her clients’ businesses over the years and actively shares her passionately held opinions. And she shares her opinions an awful lot! But that’s OK – as Debra explains, they are her opinions so they are absolutely right from her point of view. And once you have been in her audience, not only will she have changed your point of view – hopefully they will be your opinions too! She has worked with retailers in her role with the Australian Retailers Association, established direct sales networks for an international marketing company, and built her own business – Australian Retail Services – to be one of Australia’s best and most popular in retail training and consultancy. She is the author of many How To books in selling, visual merchandising, customer service and retailing in general and presents at conferences and exhibitions across Australia.

Kirk Westwood

From chasing a soccer career in LA to chasing a film career in Hollywood to chasing the sun in Byron Bay, Kirk Westwood now has his finger firmly on the pulse of life. Born and raised in North Western NSW, he returned to Australia after being diagnosed with a debilitating illness and dedicated the next 5 years of his life to studying alternative therapies, healing cultures, and the development of intuition to eventually assail his (supposedly incurable) “post-viral-syndrome” with characteristic determination, conviction and courage. As an Intuitive Consultant he now uses his knowledge of alchemical structure and an acutely honed intuitive ability to illustrate the truth of what is actually taking place to clients ranging from CEO’s to Special Forces soldiers to athletes and entertainers of international repute.

Ean Jones

After entering advertising through the highly regarded Advertising Federation of Australia (AFA) Scholarship programme, Ean worked with many of Australia’s best advertising agencies including its largest, George Patterson. Working exclusively on Yellow Pages Ean was intrinsically involved with one of Australia’s most famous TVC’s - the highly acclaimed GOGOMOBILE commercial.

Ean moved to the North Coast of NSW after 12 years in advertising to take up a position of Regional Marketing Manager for the APN Newspaper Group.

A desire to rekindle a love of advertising saw Ean start Combustion Advertising 8 years ago. Combustion’s growth and creative excellence has seen it win many accounts, a few awards and create the regions most innovative, effective and creative work.
